Casual Sunday

I grew up attending a church were everyone wore their “Sunday Best”.

The rules have changed.  “Casual Fridays” at work have become “casual Sundays” at church.  Sometimes I think we’ve taken things a bit too far.

This morning I rolled out of bed, slipped on a pair of sweat pants and a tee shirt along with my vibram fivefingers, splashed some water on my face, walked past my razor, quickly dragged a brush through my greasy, thinning hair, and headed off to church.

I confess.  I’m not pretty when I clean up, but this morning I looked like a bum.

The purpose of casual dress at church is to break down walls and to make everyone feel welcome by taking away some of the trappings by which we judge each other.  It’s not an excuse to be a slob.

Not only does God deserve better, so does everyone that has to look at me!
