Mark runs ... through life

Adult on-set athlete, Recovering human, Imperfectionist, Master of the obvious

Let’s get it started!

Let’s get it started, let’s get it started, let’s get it started…

I’m pumped up by the Black Eyes Peas this morning.  It’s time to get serious about running again.

Early May, my lower back started to ache a bit. Then it started to hurt a lot.  The pain spread down my left leg all the way to my foot.  It felt like someone started sending electric shocks through the front of my leg.  A doctor’s visit diagnosed that I had a herniated disk (L-4, L-5 for my fellow sufferers).  The pain progressed to the point where I was walking with a cane.  Two spinal epidural injections have eased the pain but I occasionally still have numbness below my knee and some shockiness in my foot.

During my adventure I’ve also seen my weight go from 170 to 198.  I’m back in my fat pants.

It’s time.  The Flying Pig Half Marathon in Cincinnati on May 2nd will be my coming out party.  160 days away.

Stick with me as I train to “jog the hog”.  It’s starting over time for me.

Let’s get it started!
