I think I’m in a little over my head, but that’s never stopped me before. So here I go.
I’ve just completed reading Marcus Buckingham’s Find Your Strongest Life, What the Happiest and Most Successful Women Do Differently.
As a man, don’t ask me why I selected this book to read. I found Marcus Buckingham’s Emotional Intelligence to be very insightful and figured that there had to be something I could gain from this book. Also, as a father of three daughters, I’ll read anything that might give me a little help in dealing with the members of the female persuasion.
I must admit this wasn’t an easy book for me to get through. Buckingham promotes a “I am woman, hear me roar, I can have it all” stereotype. Many men have tried to have it all and ended up burning the candle at both ends. It takes special men and women to perform the delicate balancing act between career and family.
That said, I do want my daughters to read it. Buckingham is an enthusiastic cheerleader for dedication and hard work. After going back through the book a second time I discovered the his key is deciding what you (men or women) really want and then pursue it with focus and determination. It’s a concept that’s easy to hear but difficult to embrace.
The moral of the story is: You may not be able to have it all but you can have what’s important.
